Né en 1965 en Hollande, vit à Genève et à Barcelone. Formé à l’Ecole supérieure d’art visuel de Genève, il pratique la performance depuis 1995. Présente régulièrement ses performances, notamment à la Fondation Cartier à Paris (Soirée Nomade, 1995), au Festival for performing arts EXIT, Helsinki (2001), à Art Unlimited Basel (2002), au Museo Reina Sofia de Madrid (Don’t Call It Performance, 2003), à la Biennale de Guangju (2004), à Image Forum, Tokyo (2005), à la Ménagerie de verre, Paris (2006) à Vooruit, Gand (2007), au Festival d’Avignon (2008), ou encore au Theaterspektakel Zurich (2009).
Son travail vidéo se trouve dans de nombreuses collections publiques et privées, allant du Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon au Museum für Kommunikation de Bern.
Yan Duyvendak a reçu trois fois le « Swiss Art Award », (2002, 2003, 2004), le prix « Namics Kunstpreis für Neue Medien » (2004) ainsi que le « Network Kulturpreis » (2006), entre autres. Il a bénéficié de plusieurs résidences, allant de la Cité des Arts à Paris, en passant par l’atelier Schönhauser à Berlin (fonds cantonal d’art contemporain, Genève) jusqu’au Swiss Artistic Studio au Caire de Pro Helvetia (2007, 2008).

Duyvendak regularly presents his performances at, among other venues, the Fondation Cartier in Paris (Nomadic Evening/Soiree Nomade, 1995), the EXIT performing arts festival in Helsinki (2001), Art Unlimited Basel (2002), the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid (Don’t Call it Performance, 2003), the Guangju Biennale (2004), the Image Forum, Institute of the Moving Image, Tokyo (2005), the crédac, Ivry-sur-Seine (Midnight Walkers, 2006), Vooruit, Gent (2007), at the Festival d’Avignon (2008), or at the Theaterspektakel Zurich (2009).
His video work is in numerous public and private art collections, going from the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Lyon, to the Museum für Kommunikation, Bern.
In 2004, Duyvendak received – for the third consecutive year – the “Swiss Art Award”, as well as the “Namics Kunstpreis fur Neue Medien”. He has been awarded with several “artists in residency” programs, for exemple the Cité des Arts in Paris, the Schonhauser artists’ space in Berlin, or the Swiss artistic Studio Pro Helvetia in Cairo (2007, 2008)

Seine Performances werden regelmässig aufgeführt, unter anderem haben Aufführungen stattgefunden : in der Fondation Cartier in Paris (Soirée Nomade, 1995), am Festival for performing arts EXIT, Helsinki (2001), an der Art Unlimited Basel (2002), im Museum Reina Sofia in Madrid (Don’t Call It Performance, 2003), am Performance Congress in Séoul (2004), am Image Forum Tokyo (2005), im crédac, Ivry-sur-Seine (Midnight Walkers, 2006), in Vooruit, Gent (2007), im Festival d’Avignon (2008), oder im Theaterspektakel Zurich (2009).
Seine visuelle Arbeiten befinden sichin viele Museen und Sammlungen, zum Beispiel im Kommunikiationsmuseum in Bern, und im Musée des Beaux-Arts, Lyon.
Yan Duyvendak wurde 2004 zum dritten Mal in Folge mit dem «Swiss Art Award» ausgezeichnet und erhielt den «Namics Kunstpreis für Neue Medien». In 2006 erhielt er den «Networkkunstpreis». Mehrere «Artist in Residence» stipendien brachten ihm nach Berlin (Schönhauser), Paris (Cité Internationale des Arts) oder Cairo ( Swiss artistic Studio Pro Helvetia).

Yan Duyvendak recibió en 2004, por tercera vez consecutiva el « Swiss Art Award », así como el premio «Namics Kunstpreis für Neue Medien». En 2006 recibió el premio “Network Kulturpreis”.
